An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 has struck northern Georgia in 8 September early morning at 03:40 as local time. According to the first informations, there have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the earthquake. However, people felt tremors in the capital Tbilisi, the central town of Gori and in Zugdidi, in the west.
In the epicenter zone - Oni region, villages Runda, Chori, Qchmori, Tsedisi, Sorgiti, Oncheki, Ori, Jakhva, Nakieti, Nigvziani, Vaniskhevi all houses have significant cracks. In Nakieti and Nigvziani the houses have less cracks. The government of Georgia has sent to the site rescue and assessment team for the detailed information.
RCP Georgia Representative Kakha Mamuladze and the DM Teams of Georgia Red Cross arrived to the site on 8th of September evening for the assesment of damage. According to the latest information received from RCP Representative Mamuladze;
417 family whose houses were severely damaged.
RCP Headquarter is on alert after the event occured, and all news and updates are beign followed within the coordination of Georgian Red Cross .
